ESCORT REQUIREMENTS
Permitted vehicles notable to maintain a min. speed of 45 mph on freeways or interstate highways shall have a follow-up vehicle displaying a "SLOW VEHICLE" sign. The "SLOW VEHICLE" sign shall take precedence over the "OVERSIZE LOAD" sign. (Both signs are not required at the same time on the escort vehicle). (re: UR 600.8)
ONE PILOT VEHICLE is required for loads which exceed the following dimensions: 12' in width on 2-lane and 14' in width on divided highways (interstates).; 120' in length on divided highways and 105' in length on 2-lane highways; In excess of 20' of overhangs.
TWO PILOT VEHICLES are required for loads which exceed the following dimensions: 14' in width on 2-lane highways and 16' in width on divided highways; 120' in length on 2-lane; 16' in height on all highways, if height is required it will be on your permit. Pilot cars are required for construction and 2-lane canyon roads on certain routes, too numerous to mention, exceeding 10' wide up to 14' wide. Effective as of 4/3/98, 2nd Rev. Handbook, UR9003-4-5-6. Vehicle load over 16' high requires a height pole.
