TRUCK OVER DIMENSIONAL PERMIT LIMITATIONS

Weight: Single - 29,500 Lbs When properly permitted; Tandem - 50,000 Lbs; Tridum - 61,750 Lbs; Quads must be cleared through the Bridge Structure Department. Gross Weight: 5 Axles - 100,000 Lbs; 6 Axles - 136,750 Lbs; 7 Axles - 148,500 Lbs; 8 Axles -186,750 Lbs. These are just guidelines. The Department will decide if these weights are permissible.

Length: There is no maximum length. If the road can handle the length then the permit will be issued.

Width: 17'

Height: 16' high requires a pilot car with height pole. 17' 6" over this requires special D.O.T. approval.

 

1000.10 UNLAIDEN HEAVY HALL TRAILER COMBINATIONS: Heavy Haul companies may operate these trailer combinations consisting of a jeep, trailer and booster up to 105' long and 10' wide, with a special semi-annual or annual permit issued in accordance with UR Sec. 600. These combinations will be allowed to operate, with one certified escort vehicle, between the hours darkness. These combinations are exempt from curfew and holiday restrictions in accordance with UR Section 600.

 

TRUCK SIGNS FLAGS & LIGHTS

 “Wide load” – “Oversize load” signs will be displayed to the front and rear of vehicles or loads exceeding 10' in width, 14' in height and 92' in length. Signs must say "Oversize load" and be 7' x 18" with yellow background with 10" x 1-5/8" black letters. Red/orange flags minimum 12" sq. on a 3' staff when required with the bottom of the flag not less then 6' above the road surface or as close as physically possible. When the load exceeds 3' to the front or 4' to the rear of the bed or body flags shall be displayed at the extremities of the load during daylight hours. Vehicles with front or rear overhang extending more than 20' from the front or rear bumper of a vehicle, or from the center of the closest axle in the absence of a bumper, shall display an AAMVA approved amber warning light which rotates, oscillates or flashes through 360 degrees mounted at the rearmost or front most part of the overhang at a min. height of 4' above ground. Night movement requires red lights at the widest points and rear.
